WA Reds Hold Out Against Western Sydney
The Cash Converters WA Reds held out with another gutsy home win against Western Sydney taking out the game 28 to 22.
Although there was bit of a stumble towards the end they were the best side all day and did the work needed to beat the academy side made up of some of the best age players from the western suburbs.
The Reds got out to a 10 nil lead early on with Dylan Rintoul scoring twice from some good play from Clinton Strickland and Jaline Graham.
With a 16 all half time score line Western Sydney were able to stay in touch with some soft defense from the Reds, but it was the try from Ethan Reynolds at 33 minutes which was the highlight for the Reds after a 50 metre movement which again saw Graham in the action.
The second half started the same as the first for the Reds with the score jumping out to 28 – 16 after 10 minutes with tries from Kieran Culgan and a good push from dummy half to Kaine Buckwell.
At 22 minutes, Western Sydney got another barge over try to get to 22 points, but it was the last score for the game as the Reds were able to hold out despite making some basic errors.
Coach Andrew Korn was pleased with the win.
“It was a gutsy win for us, and a hard fought result. The boys did not stick to the game plan at the end but we achieved some things we set out to do.”
“We started fast and made sure that Western Sydney had to chase.”
Best players were Daniel Westerduin, Keiran Culgan and Ethan Reynolds.
The only sour note was the hand injury to Ian Woods who did not get back onto the field after half time.
